Arabic Day at the MUG

Arabic Day at the MUG

25.01.2019

A lecture about the Middle East, a dance show and tasting of local food. These attractions took place as a part of the The Arabic Day. Event was organised by the Internationalization Department. The guest of the event, which took place on January 24, was Beata Abdallah-Krzepkowska, Ph.D., assistant professor at the Department of Oriental Studies and General Linguistics at the University of Silesia in Katowice. She presented the culture and history of the Middle East region.

Arabic culture is not uniform. It is divided into at least three main parts – the culture of city dwellers, extra-urban culture and the culture of nomads represented by the Bedouins. Not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs. Among the Arabs, of course, the followers of Islam are clearly dominant, but there are also Christians and Judoists.

Interests with Arabs can be very lucrative, but you have to remember a few basic rules. The most important of them is – trust, then business. Potential business partners during the first meetings do not talk about money or a joint venture at all. They spend time to get to know each other better, gain trust and only then decide whether to negotiate at all.

At present, there are 52 Saudis, 56 Iranians and 22 Iraqis studying at the MUG.
