Race for the Cure in Gdańsk

14.09.2018

Race for the Cure is the world’s largest educational and charity event devoted to breast cancer. This year it will be held in Poland for the first time. The race organiser, the OmeaLife Foundation, chose Gdańsk for the Polish edition of the race as a symbol of solidarity around the world.

Race for the Cure, as an event, has one common image worldwide. People affected by breast cancer run in pink shirts and celebrate life. The other participants express a gesture of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer, wearing white shirts. Together we commemorate those who are no longer with us.

Race for the Cure Gdańsk 2018 – Memorial of Olga Gajdus brings an idea of increasing awareness of breast cancer prevention among young women and possibility of raising funds for activities of the OmeaLife Foundation. It is also a commemoration of one of the co-founders – Olga Gajdus, who died of breast cancer at the age of 35.

The event is under a medical patronage of the University Clinical Centre, the MUG’s hospital, and a honorary patronage of the MUG’s rector, prof. Marcin Gruchała.

The honorary ambassadors of the race became Danuta Wałęsa and prof. Jacek Jassem from the MUG’s Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy.

The entry fee is 40 PLN. Women, men, as well as children over 10 years of age can participate in the event. There are 3 possibilities of participation: running – 6 km, Nordic Walking – 3 km and virtual running.
