The next edition of the English Summer Camp (ESC) took place from July 23 to August 5 in Szarlota near Kościerzyna. Its main purpose is to support children from orphanages, foster families and those in a difficult financial situation. The project was organised by the Project Management Institute, Gdańsk Branch under the patronage of the MUG.
During the Camp, children study English, learn how to cooperate and solve problems together, as well as work on projects.
Employees of the University actively helped to organise the Camp which was a project work. The person responsible for the implementation of the project and coordination of work of individual teams is a Project Manager, which this year was Katarzyna Sempołowicz-Lipska from the MUG’s Information and Promotion Section. Damian Szczesny Ph.D. (TAZD-CBU), who was also a coordinator of the Communication and Marketing Team, supported Project Manager in this responsible and demanding job. Marta Kordalewska from the Department of Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics and Ewa Orłowska, a graduate of the MUG’s Faculty of Pharmacy, also were involved in the organisation of the ESC.
During the Camp, children participated in various classes and workshops. One of them was the first aid workshop carried out by Aleksandra Kuliś M.D. from the Emergency Medicine Student’s Scientific Circle, supervised by Ewa Raniszewska M.D. Ph.D.. When working with phantoms, children learnt how to deal with loss of consciousness by adults and by children, choking or drowning. The presentation of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), which is available in public places, was also very popular. Young participants surprised the doctor with their knowledge about the first aid.
The two-week English Summer Camp gave children a lot of joy and useful experiences. For the organisers, in turn, it was a great opportunity to develop skills related to projects work.
