On 31 July 2018, small patients from the Pediatrics, Hematology and Oncology Department painted a fragment of an 80-meter beach windbreak which was created as part of the “Understanding August” project (Polish: “Zrozumieć sierpień” ) organised by the European Solidarity Centre.
“Understanding August” is an initiative aimed at celebrating broadly understood Solidarity. As part of this event, Bartosz Zimniak, who on a daily basis runs artistic workshops at the MEWKA studio, implements the “Parawan 80” project (translates as “Beach Windbreak 80” project) which connects and not divides and the aim of which is to create an 80-meter beach windbreak.
Patients from the Department of Paediatrics, Hematology and Oncology of the UCC drew with markers on white canvas the beach, water, islands, planes and boats, as well as kites, paraglider and a guinea pig. The beach windbreak will be presented in full on August 18 on the beach in Gdańsk Brzeźno, at entrance no. 48, from 6 to 8 pm.
