The year 2018 marks the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland gaining independence. The Medical University of Gdańsk wishes to use this unique opportunity to show all the changes that took place in Polish science, particularly in those fields that are close to our hearts – namely, medicine and pharmacy. This month we would like to launch a series of events called “Kaleidoscope of 100 years”, which will introduce key moments, significant achievements and important people in the history of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
The foundation of Medical Academy of Gdańsk and its further development would not have been possible without a group of genuinely committed people. Starting from students, administrative workers, teachers up to any person who, right after the war, decided to take up the challenge to build a Polish medical school from scratch. The next installment of “Kaleidoscope of 100 years” introduces the profiles of professors Stanisław Hiller, Włodzimierz Mołozowski, Tadeusz Pawlas, Michał Reicher and Józef Tymiński who, in the heat of the war and its aftermath, took great effort for the sake of the common cause. Regardless of traumatic, war-inflicted experiences, they devoted themselves passionately to establishing a new university. We wish to kindly invite you to watch original documents, photographs and souvenirs, not just their virtual counterparts.
Marek Bukowski from the Museum of Gdańsk Medical University and Joanna Śliwińska, the spokesman for MUG, are in charge of this project, with the cooperation of the Main Library, Department of Foreign Languages, University Archives and MUG Choir among others.
