Success of the MUG’s students in “Scapula Aurea” competition

4.06.2018

On June 2nd 2018 our Alma Mater hosted the annual final of the National Anatomical Competition “Scapula Aurea”. It is worth mentioning that the first “Scapula Aurea” was organised also by the Medical Academy of Gdańsk in 1967. The competition was held under the auspices of the MUG’s Rector, prof. Marcin Gruchała and the Polish Anatomical Society. The competition consisted of a test of practical knowledge (50 anatomical specimens) and a test of 60 theoretical questions concerning human anatomy. Seventy seven students from 16 Polish medical faculties participated in the competition.

Students of both Polish and English divisions were classified into individual and team categories. For the last three years students of our University who participated in the Scapula Aurea always received good scores, but this time all categories were dominated by students of our Alma Mater led by Jan Spodnik M.D. Ph.D. Individual awards in the Polish Division were presented to Krzysztof Deręgowski (1st), Mateusz Jagielski (2nd) and Jacek Frańczak (3rd). Individual awards in the English Division were presented to Paul Ghada (1st), Sophia Maiorana (2nd) and Anders Aarnes (3rd). The Team awards in the Polish Division were presented to the Medical University of Gdansk (1st), the Collegium Medicum of Jagiellonian University of Krakow (2nd) and the Medical University of Warsaw (3rd), while team awards in the English Division went to the Medical University of Gdańsk (1st), the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń (2nd) and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (3rd).

All participants of Scapula Aurea agree that such a competition is not only beneficial experience that widens students’ knowledge and horizons but also is kind of a fun. It is a nice platform for the anatomy teachers from various schools to share their didactic experience and expertise.
