30.05.2018

The first cardiological surgery in Poland – the implantation of the atrial flow regulator (AFR) was held on May 21, 2018, at the University Clinical Centre (UCC). It is the result of cooperation between the MUG’s Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Defects and the Clinical Cardiology Centre of the UCC.

The 28-year-old patient underwent correction of complex congenital heart disease in early childhood and developed severe pulmonary hypertension. Alicja Dąbrowska-Kugacka M.D. Ph.D. qualified the patient for the procedure and the surgery was carried out by prof. Robert Sabiniewicz M.D. Ph.D. and Dariusz Ciećwierz M.D. Ph.D., as well as Joanna Kwiatkowska M.D. Ph.D. and prof. Marcin Fijałkowski M.D. Ph.D.
