The year 2018 marks the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland gaining independence. The Medical University of Gdańsk wishes to use this unique opportunity to show all the changes that took place in Polish science, particularly in those fields that are close to our hearts – namely, medicine and pharmacy. This month we would like to launch a series of events called “Kaleidoscope of 100 years”, which will introduce key moments, significant achievements and important people in the history of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
April presentation looks back at those pages of the chronicle where former ECG Unit and Pediatric Cardiology Center at the first Childhood Diseases Clinic / Department of Pediatrics of Gdańsk Medical Academy were featured. Professor Stanisława Dymnicka-Małecka was the first to start writing the chronicle in 1957. The entire chronicle comprises 6 volumes in A4 paper size and does not only record the details of the development of pediatric cardiology in Gdańsk but it also proves to be an invaluable source of information on Poland’s atmosphere, worries and hopes within the years 1957-1994.
Marek Bukowski from the Museum of Gdańsk Medical University and Joanna Śliwińska, the spokesman for MUG, are in charge of this project, with the cooperation of the Main Library, Department of Foreign Languages, University Archives and MUG Choir among others.
