During this year’s winter holidays, employees and students of the MUG actively supported the English Winter Camp – a charitable educational programme the aim of which is to support the development of children raised in orphanages, foster families and in families with low material status. From February 2 to 9, our University hosted children and teenagers aged 8-15. The main theme of the Camp was science. Children spent an intense time at the Faculty Pharmacy, where they visited the Medicinal Plant Garden belonging to the Department of Pharmacognosy, at the Department of Applied Pharmacy they got acquainted with the pharmacy recipe workshop, devices used in the production of medicines, a tablet press and a tablet coating apparatus, at the Department of Analytical Chemistry they had an opportunity to watch chemical experiments, at the Department of Biopharmacy and Pharmacodynamics they learned to work with a programme for creating models for 3D printer and took part in workshops from dilution of solutions and a simple methods for separating dyes using school chalk. Thanks to the hospitality of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, children could see different methods of collecting fingerprints, colour’s solution, “elephant toothpaste” and others. In the students’ computer lab and the seminar room of the Department of Biopharmacy and Pharmacodynamics, children built remotely controlled vehicles from the LEGO® bricks and learned programming “Be Creo”. The Department of Foreign Languages also opened its doors towards young guests giving them the opportunity to participate in such classes as medical English, workshops on oral hygiene and first aid. Children also visited the Tri-City Academic Laboratory Animal Centre, the Main Library and the MUG’s Museum.
