The Johannes Hevelius Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk has been granted for the 30th time. This prestigious award is given to scientists for outstanding achievements. In the category of natural and exact sciences, the prize was awarded to prof. Michał Woźniak M.D. Ph.D., head of the MUG’s Department of Medical Chemistry. The awards ceremony took place on 28 January, 2018, on the 407th birthday anniversary of Johannes Hevelius (Polish: Jan Heweliusz).

Prof. Michał Woźniak M.D. Ph.D. is a well-known scientist specialising in free radical signaling mechanisms related to selected pathologies, including acute pancreatitis, cancer and the aging process.

Professor published over 150 original scientific works in international peer-reviewed journals with both biochemical and clinical profiles. He is a member of many international scientific societies and travels as a lecturer to universities around the world. He conducted scientific research and delivered lectured in Nagoya (Japan), Ancona (Italy), Bradford (the United Kingdom) and Antwerp (Belgium). Prof. Michał Woźniak M.D. Ph.D. received an individual invitation to present his scientific achievements at the prestigious Gordon’s Conference in Los Angeles.
