The Breast Cancer Clinic was opened at the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk. In the ceremony, which took place in the Invasive Medicine Centre (IMC) participated the MUG’s Rector prof. Marcin Gruchała, Vice-Rector for Clinical Matters prof. Edyta Szurowska, the UCC’s General Director Jakub Kraszewski, Director of Health Tomasz Stefaniak M.D. Ph.D., prof. Jacek Jassem, Head of the Oncology and Radiotherapy Department and Elżbieta Senkus-Konefka M.D. Ph.D. who is a coordinator of the Clinic.
As Prof. Jacek Jassem emphasized, Gdańsk is an absolute leader in the country when it comes to amputation with simultaneous breast reconstruction. The MUG’s Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy has been specialising in the treatment of breast and lung cancers for years, and the standards developed here will soon be binding for all oncologists in Poland.
The establishment of the Clinic is the next stage of the development of the Breast Unit in Gdańsk. The Clinic provides health care for oncology patients diagnosed with cancer. Also, women who want to get a medical check-up prophylactically, those who are genetically burdened with breast cancer or who have previously been diagnosed with benign breast conditions may report to the Breast Cancer Clinic. It is located on the third floor of the Invasive Medicine Centre and is open three times a week: on Mondays from 13-15, on Tuesdays from 14-16 and on Thursdays from 15-17.
