The Department of Orthopaedics and Kinetic Organ Traumatology headed by prof. Tomasz Mazurek was recognised as a hospital dedicated to the treatment of hand injuries. Currently, the requirements of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) are met by only five centres – from Gdańsk, Trzebnica, Poznań, Wrocław and Szczecin.
The Hand Trauma Center (HTC) must be open 24 hours a day, must have at least two trauma operations per day and at least four microsurgical procedures per month. Filip Dąbrowski M.D. Ph.D., an assistant at the Department of Orthopaedics and Kinetic Organ Traumatology, was appointed as the HTC’s delegate. The HTC’s delegate must obtain the FESSH’s diploma within 10 years. Some national qualifications can be considered equivalent to the FESSH’s diploma. In this case, the candidature is assessed by the accreditation committee. All centres are expected to have the HTC’s delegate with the FESSH’s diploma within 10 years from now.
A list of hospitals dedicated to the treatment of hand injuries is available on the FESSH website (www.fessh.com) and the Polish Society of Hand Surgery (www.ptchr.org.pl).
