Prof. Piotr Trzonkowski, Head of the Clinical Immunology and Transplantology, was awarded the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science, so-called the Polish Nobel Prize, in the Life and Earth Sciences category. The prize was awarded for T regulatory cell research (TREG) and for pioneering the use of these cells in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Among laureates of the 26th edition of the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science were also prof. Daniel Gryko from the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw who received the award in the field of Chemical and Materials Sciences, prof. Krzysztof Pomian from CNRS – Centre national de la recherche scientifique in Paris and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń awarded in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences and prof. Andrzej Trautman from the University of Warsaw for his research work in the field of Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences.
