Study visit to Berlin

Dominika Szalewska M.D. Ph.D. and Joanna Jabłońska-Brudło M.D. Ph.D. from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, as well as Tadeusz Jędrzejczyk M.D. Ph.D. from the Department of Public Health and Social Medicine took part in a study visit to Berlin under the project “Implementation of the new educational model for specialists in rehabilitation management as part of the comprehensive rehabilitation system in Poland”. The new model, based on Canadian and German experiences, assumes that new specialists – rehabilitation coordinators – in cooperation with hospitals, health rehabilitation centres, self-governments, businesses and non-government organisations (NGO) will be dealing with comprehensive and effective support of patients’ recovery process and their professional and social reintegration.

The leader of the project is the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRON) with the partnership of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), the Medical University of Gdańsk, the University of Warsaw, the Medical University of Lublin and the University of Wrocław, as well as Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung – DGUV, the German accident insurance system institution.

The five-day training was carried out at the DGUV’s headquarters in Berlin and covered the German accident and social insurance system, work specifics of so-called reha-manager, whose main role is to coordinate activities aimed at returning the patient as soon as possible to the current social and professional roles.
