On the 13th of February two specialists from the MUG Clinic of Urology, Marcin Matuszewski M.D., Ph.D. and Jakub Kłącz M.D. successfully conducted two operations of implantation of an artificial urinary sphincter AMS 800. Both operations were supervised by prof. Enrique Llledo – Garcia, an expert from the Department of Urology at the Medical University in Madrid. This type of operation is intended for patients with incontinence as a consequence of surgical treatment of the prostate – cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It involves the implantation in a patient’s body a device made of synthetic material, which allows opening and closing of a uretha.

The implantation of the artificial urinary sphincters of the urethra will allow the Clinic of Urology to offer this treatment to patients from all over the country, both in the treatment of prostate cancer, as well as other treatments during which there has been damage to the urethral sphincter.

The ability to perform such operations is the next step in a complex project of the Clinic leading to the creation of the Prostate Cancer Unit, which is a specialist center for treating this type of cancer.
