Over 60 events, including hands-on workshops, laboratory demonstrations and lectures, comprise the schedule of this year’s Medical Science Day. The 8th edition of this event will take place on May 22nd of this year at the MUG’s Collegium Biomedicum. The aim of the event is to promote medical sciences among children and teenagers. With the help of specialists and MUG students, young scientists will try to grow their own chemical garden, create a storm in a test tube or a sea of foam. During the numerous workshops and lectures the participants will be able to find out how were surgeries performed in the past, if and how were patients anesthetized and how does a surgery look like in 3D. We will share whether there is any grain of truth in the legends about vampires and werewolves or not. Together with the immunologists we will spread the willingness to get vaccinated or with the help of the pharmacists we will create chemical models of pharmacologically active compounds. There will be no shortage of language workshops regarding the influence of healthy diet and active lifestyle on our mood, about the strangest diseases in the world or about the behind-the-scenes look at the academic life.

For the first time at the MSD, the future cardiologists will prepare a workshop about fainting among school-age youth, combined with teaching basic first aid skills. The anesthesiologists will demonstrate how to obtain vascular access or perform a nerve block under the control of ultrasound and surgeons will teach basic suturing and laparoscopic skills.

As in the previous editions, the participants will have a chance to tour the Animal Laboratory, learn how to examine breasts or take part in several sport-related activities led by physiotherapists (including the assessment of hand function or the sense of balance). Tasty and healthy snacks will be provided by young dieticians.

Admission is free of charge.

The Medical Science Day is part of the Baltic Festival of Science.
