Another success of the MUG Pediatric Oncology Scientific Circle

MUG English Division students from the Pediatric Oncology Scientific Circle won three prizes and the Grand Prix at the 23rd International Student Scientific Conference for Students and Young Doctors which took place on April 23-25 2015 here in Gdańsk. The winning presentations are:

  1. “Pediatric cardiac angiosarcoma – is a cure possible?”; M. Iwinski, S. Sohail, K. Adamowska, R. Wyrebek – Grand Prix award of the Conference and 1st place at the Pediatrics & Neonatology session.
  2. “The importance of Survivin, p53, Cyclin D and Osteopontin tumor expression in predicting response to chemoterapy in children with neurogenic sarcomas”; G. Karpinsky, C. Paradis – 1st place at the Oncology session.
  3. “Melanotic Neuroectodermal Tumor of Infancy – What can we do in recurrent, inoperable cases?”; N. Cwalina, E. Lundström – Distinction at the Oral and maxillofacial surgery session.

The ED Pediatric Oncology Scientific Circle has been active since May 2011 and is supervised by Ewa Bień, MD PhD and Małgorzata Krawczyk, MD. Besides earning awards at scientific conferences, the students received the MUG Rector’s Award. In addition, Gabrielle Karpinsky (the leader of the Circle) won this year’s Interstudent Award for the best foreign student in Poland in the Masters Programme category.
