On November 15th 2014, MUG students examined 408 residents of Gdynia at the Riviera shopping centre during the “Zdrowie pod Kontrolą” (“Health under control”) festival. The event was organized by the Gdańsk branch of the IFMSA-Poland with the cooperation of the Student Scientific Club at the Department of Oncologic Surgery, the Student Scientific Club at the Department of Nutrition and the Gdańsk branch of Młoda Farmacja.
Shoppers obtained free preventive tests measuring their blood glucose level, blood pressure and body composition. In addition, they had an opportunity to obtain free medical advice from MUG graduates, learn more about healthy nutrition, osteoporosis prevention, how to perform first aid and register as potential bone marrow donors (in cooperation with Baza Dawców Komórek Macierzystych – Fundacja DKMS). Whereas the little shoppers had a chance to treat their toys at the Szpital Pluszowego Misia (Teddy Bear Hospital). Many shoppers enjoyed samples of homemade tea served by the members of Młoda Farmacja.
“Zdrowie pod kontrolą” is a nation-wide project that takes place on one day in 12 largest Polish cities. It combines nearly all projects that are undertaken as part of the Public Health Program of the IFMSA-Poland. The aim of the project is educating the public about health and to conduct preventive tests.
