English Division students won four awards

Students from the English Division Pediatric Oncology Scientific Circle, supervised by Ewa Bień MD, PhD and Małgorzata Krawczyk MD, won a total of four awards during the 22nd International Student Scientific Conference for Students and Young Doctors. The conference took place on April 24-26 2014 in Gdańsk and the panel of judges awarded the following presentations:

  1. “Metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma in an adolescent masquerading as leukemia – a case report with literature review” – Gabrielle Karpinsky – 1st place at the Case Report Non-Surgical Session;
  2. “Food selectivity resulting in severe pancytopenia in an autistic adolescent” – Natalia Cwalina (presenting author), Agnieszka Mrozinska – 1st distinction at the Case Report Non-Surgical Session;
  3. “Parent’s health in the shadows of their child’s disease: the unexplored sequelae of pediatric oncology” – Boris Warszawski (presenting author), Rita Wyrebek, Gabrielle Karpinsky, Paula Gorski – 1st distinction at the Internal Medicine and Dermatology Session;
  4. “Birth characteristics of children with cancer – is there a trend?” Anna Szalek (presenting author), Marwa Jammal Aldin – distinction at the Paediatrics and Gynaecology Session.

Since May 2011, the Circle has been functioning at the Department of Pediatrics, Hematology and Oncology. Currently it is the most active scientific club for MUG English Division students. Each academic year members of the Circle win awards at student conferences. In December 2013 the English Division Pediatric Oncology Scientific Circle earned the MUG Rector’s Award.
