On March 4th 2014, the MUG Rector prof. Janusz Moryś officially opened the exhibition of anatomic drawings “Andreas Vesalius’ Treatise on the structure of human body – De humani corporis fabrica.” Vesalius created this work in the renaissance period and today it is regarded as a masterpiece of medical artwork and typography. The displays of Vesalius’ art were created by the staff of Collegium Medicum of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Dr Krzysztof Nierzwicki, director of the NCU Library as well as the originator and co-creator of this exhibition, gave a brief presentation about Vesalius’ life and the history behind his masterpiece. Among the visitors were representatives of the MUG authorities, directors of the Tricity universities’ libraries, MUG staff and students. The life-size illustrations with modern commentary caught the attention of the visitors. Also featured is a copy of “De humani corporis fabrica” from the 1930’s, presented in a display case in the Library’s catalog hall.
The exhibition will last until May 2014.
