Members of the Student Scientific Clubs at the MUG Department of Oncological Surgery and the MUG Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care participated in the V edition of the Gdańsk Biega (Gdańsk Running) event on November 3rd 2013 by the pier in Gdańsk-Brzeźno. The students measured blood pressure, blood glucose levels, taught breast self-examination and encouraged healthy lifestyle. In addition, students demonstrated on mannequins what to do in case of choking, how to open the airways, ventilate and even how to insert a cannula into the vein.
The event was organized in the “run for fun” format, therefore there were no fees, start numbers, time-keeping or final results. Participants could choose from the distances of three and six kilometers and also had an option to run with their dogs. The course led through the beach as well as the seaside promenade. Over 4.5 thousand people participated in the event.
The runners had a minute of silence before the event started because this year’s edition of the event was dedicated to the memory of Tadeusz Mazowiecki, the first Prime Minister of the post-communist Poland.
