Encouraging children to drink water, including tap water, is the main goal of the public health campaign “Zawodniacy” which began on October 16th 2013 in Warszawa. According to the experts, healthy habits will make it possible to reduce the number of obese children in Poland. “The number of overweight and obese children in the 6-11 age group is unfortunately rising”, said dr Łukasz Balwicki from the Polish Society of Health Programs, lecturer at the MUG Department of Public Health. “One of the reasons for this situation is excess sugar intake, in the form of many seemingly healthy products such as beverages”.
The project has its Facebook profile and its website zawodniacy.pl features advice for parents and educational games for children that help them earn the certificate of a “Zawodniak”.
