Running with the doctors

Participants from the Tricity, Tczew, Starogard Gdański and even as far as Toruń and Szczecinek met on October 5th 2013 at the start line of the 3rd edition of the Gdańsk Doctor’s Run. The event was organized under the patronage of the Regional Medical Chamber in Gdańsk and was open to doctors, dentists, their family members and medical students.

According to the tradition, the race took place at the Ronald Reagan Seaside Park in Gdańsk and runners could choose from two distances: 10K (4laps of 2.5km) and 5K.

Edyta Śleszycka from Gdańsk once again took first place in the women’s 10K with a winning time of 45:19. Hanna Muerau-Nowicka from Bytów, the winner of the spring edition of the Doctor’s Run, won second place (45:57), while Anna Kopeć-Bolin from Tczew took third place.

In the men’s 10K, dentist Łukasz Romanowski was once again undefeated with an impressive time 39:13. Rafał Mackiewicz, resident at the MUG Pediatric Surgery Department, crossed the finish line shortly after (39:37). Łukasz Grodecki from Gdańsk won third place.

Medical student Magdalena Hełminiak won the women’s 5K with a time of 22:15. Whereas dentist Beata Warzecha from Lubowidz had the best 5K time among the female doctors (25:55) and placed 3rd overall.

Men’s 5K had the most participants during this autumn edition and students outran their more experienced colleagues. Michał Kiełboń from the MUG crossed the finish line first at 19:05, Tomasz Nadolny was second, whereas dr Piotr Wiśniewski from the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service was third.

Although only 35 runners participated, they brought a lot of sportsmanship and rivalry into the event. The winners received medals, whereas all participants received souvenirs.
