Doctors competed on the beach

For the fourth time in a row, doctors from our region took their white coats off on August 24th in order to compete in the annual Amateur Beach Volleyball Championships for Doctors in Gdańsk-Brzeźno.

This year’s edition featured a separate women’s tournament in which three teams competed. After intense rivalry, the pair Agnieszka Szawiel and Anna Kalisz won gold medals, Ewa Roszko-Grycner and Agata Piotrowska won silver, whereas sisters Anna Ingielewicz and Agnieszka Maj won bronze medals.

Eight teams participated in the men’s tournament and provided much excitement at the beach. Their matches consisted of two sets up to 15 points. For the second year in a row, the winners were Peter Kanyion (graduate of MUG Faculty of Medicine) and Arkadiusz Patyk (Wojewódzki Szpital Zespolony in Elbląg). A mixed pair of Marta Dornowska and Piotr Jabłecki (both are MUG medical students) won second place, whereas Mateusz Koberda and Bartłomiej Wieczorek won third place.

The Championships took place on three courts simultaneously, which caught the attention of many beachgoers who were a cheerful audience. The organizers announced future editions of this tournament which is supported by the Regional Medical Chamber in Gdańsk.
