How and why do insects make sounds? What happens inside our bodies after drinking alcohol? Do baboons drink coffee? These are just a few of the themes of the VI Medical Science Day. This is the largest event in the Pomorskie region popularizing medical sciences among children and youth. It will take place on May 24th 2013 at Collegium Biomedicum between 9:00 and 13:00. Besides lectures and laboratory experiments, there will also be many workshops and free medical examinations such as ultrasound of the thyroid gland and the abdomen, capillaroscopy and podoscopy. The highly popular surgical suturing and first-aid courses as well as touring the Laboratory Animal Centre will once again be available. Among this year’s new additions will be eye-catching experiments with dry ice and liquid nitrogen, recognizing scents and making simple cosmetics. Young medics will have a chance to learn how to insert an intravenous catheter on a realistic mannequin, try the vibrating platform (helps with weight loss) or participate in the “Blood circus” demonstration about our blood stream. Young dieticians will provide healthy and tasty snacks as well as organize competitions with a professional triathlete. Admission is free.
The MUG will also be represented at the Science Picnic in Gdynia on May 26th 2013 from 10:00-18:00. This event concludes the Baltic Science Festival and is organized by: Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Department of Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany, Student Scientific Club at the MUG Department of Oncologic Surgery and Student Scientific Club at the MUG Department of Emergency Medicine. This event is a perfect opportunity for local residents to learn life-saving skills, check their blood sugar levels, blood pressure, to examine and consult any skin changes and to taste medicinal herb mixtures.
