Over 400 listeners enjoyed the MUG New Year concert on January 5th 2013 at the Concert Hall of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. Prof. Roman Nowicki welcomed all the guests, whereas prof. Janusz Moryś (Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk) and prof. Maciej Sobczak (Rector of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk) wished everyone an unforgettable musical feast.
The first performance of the evening belonged to the violinist Aleksandra Denga, who played “Fantaisie brillante sur Faust” by Henryk Wieniawski. Next, Karolina Karcz and Miłosz Gałaj performed the duet from the operetta “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehár. Afterwards, clarinetists Dominik Grędziński i Radosław Herdzik took the stage and played “Il convegno” by Ponchielli. Whereas Bartosz Paprot and Szymon Jabłoński peformed Piazzolla’s Double Concerto for guitar and bandoneón. The final performance of the evening belonged to Joanna Knitter and her band, who played “Have yourself a Merry Christmas” and “Just the way you are”.
All artists were accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, conducted by Zygmunt Rychert and Wojciech Kowalewski.
Prof. Moryś concluded the event by thanking the musicians and giving them bouquets of flowers.
The concert lasted over two hours, but everyone agreed that such pleasant event went by very fast.
