The team of specialists from our University representing Europe was among the 4 best medical teams from around the world, selected on the basis of nominations submitted by the patients they cared for. IASLC awarded equivalent honours to one team each from the following regions: Europe, Latin America, North America, and Asia and the rest of the world. The criteria for selecting the winners included, among others: the patient’s trust, cooperation in making decisions regarding treatment and empathy shown to him. The patient’s access to care and therapeutic options, the quality of communication between doctors and the patient, the scope of information provided to him and the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment were also taken into account.

IASLC is the world’s largest lung cancer organization. It brings together over 10,500 members – biologists, nurses and doctors dealing with this cancer. The conference in Singapore was attended by 5,600 delegates from 60 countries around the world. Detailed information about the award and the full list of its winners are available on the Society’s website.
