Funding from State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled to adapt facilities to the needs of people with disabilities

31.03.2023

The Medical University of Gdańsk is among the beneficiaries of funding from State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRON) to adapt facilities to the needs of people with disabilities. Thanks to the funds obtained, the transport platform at the Scientific and Research Centre for Laboratory Medicine (building no. 27) will be replaced, making it easier to drive up for people with special needs. The cost of the investment is PLN 314,000, half of which is financed by PFRON and the remainder by the University’s funds. The agreement was signed on 28 March 2023 by the Rector of the MUG, Professor Marcin Gruchała, in the presence of the Marshall of Pomorskie Voivodeship, Mieczysław Struk, and Agnieszka Kapala-Sokalska, a member of the Pomorskie Voivodeship Board.

A total of 13 applicants from our region received funds totaling more than PLN 6.9 million from the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled. According to the agreement, all tasks covered by the funding should be implemented by the end of November 2023. A year ago, two lifts in buildings 1 and 15 were replaced with funds from the same PFRON fund. The cost of the first investment was PLN 597 487.08, while the second was PLN 648 854.02. Funding in each case amounted to 50 per cent, with the remainder coming from the University’s own resources.

His tasks include: representing the interests of students and doctoral students with disabilities before University bodies, the academic community, and external entities, as well as eliminating barriers preventing their participation in the life of the academic community, including architectural and transport barriers and access to information resources. The role of the Plenipotentiary is to ensure access to teaching activities for students and doctoral students with disabilities and chronic illnesses and to take all measures to comply with and properly treat students and doctoral students with disabilities.
