Rector of the MUG in ministerial advisory teams

Professor Marcin Gruchała, rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Medical Universities (pol. KRAUM), became one of the members of the Advisory Team for opinionating changes in healthcare. The group of experts was appointed on September 18th, 2020 by the Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski. The main task of the Team will be to identify areas that require changes and to propose modifications to existing solutions.

Other members of the Team are: head of the District Pharmacy Chamber, Michał Byliniak, MPhram, president of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives Zofia Małas, president of the Supreme Medical Council prof. dr hab. Andrzej Matyja, president of the Polish Integrated Care Foundation Andrzej Zapaśnik M.D., chairman of the resident agreement of the National Trade Union of Doctors, Filip Płużański M.D.. Professor Tomasz Hryniewiecki, director of the National Institute of Cardiology, became the chairman of the Advisory Team.

Minister Niedzielski emphasized that the Team plans to base its work on three fundamental assumptions: a package of preventive examinations for people over 40, the lifting of limits on some benefits in specialist treatment and improving the level of hospital treatment in the areas of oncology and cardiology. An important goal of the health care system development strategy during the COVID-19 epidemic is psychology and psychiatry, especially with the youngest patients.

It is also worth recalling that the Rector of our University was appointed by the head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to the Team for Coordination of Activities in the Higher Education and Science System in relation to the risk of COVID-19. The Teams leader is the Minister of Science and Higher Education. His deputy is Anna Budzanowska Ph.D. – Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and other the members are: prof. dr hab. Bogumiła Kaniewska – chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities, dr hab. Dariusz Surowik – chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Public Vocational Universities, prof. dr hab. Arkadiusz Mężyk – chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, prof. dr hab. Waldemar Tłokiński – chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Vocational Schools in Poland, prof. dr hab. Jerzy Duszyński – president of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Dominik Leżański – president of the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Aleksy Borówka – president of the National Representation of PhD Students, Grażyna Żebrowska – director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, Dawid Solak – member of the board of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, Bartłomiej Banaszak – director of the Department of Science, Marcin Czaja – director of the Department of Higher Education, Przemysław Skrodzki – director of the Department of International Cooperation, Piotr Ziółkowski – director of the Bureau for the Programmes and Initiatives of the Minister and Maciej Wróbel – representative for the Protection of Classified Information in the Minister’s Office.

The main tasks of the Team includes the analysis of the situation in the higher education and science system, as well as the preparation of recommendations for entities in the higher education and science system. In addition, a group of experts coordinates activities related to the flow of information on COVID-19 in the higher education and science system.
