Bartosz Jankowski, a 3rd year medical student at the Medical University of Gdańsk is one of the twelve international students who will go on a five-week summer course at the prestigious Yale University.

This was made possible by the scholarship granted by Santander Bank Polska. The check was officially handed over on June 21st in the presence of prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG and Mariola Piskorska, manager of the local branch of the Santander Universidades. Marek Langowski, the Chancellor of the MUG, also took part in the meeting.

The summer training program is designed for students with outstanding academic performance and fluent command of English language.

– We educate very talented young people who once again proved that they are indeed very ambitious and possess a continuous need to expand both their knowledge and qualifications –says prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG.

– I would like to offer my congratulations on this exceptional success, all the more that the competition was very high.

Bartosz Jankowski, the scholarship holder, dreams of being a world-renowned surgeon working on complex life-saving operations.

– I do realize that becoming a successful doctor requires not only the experience and medical knowledge, but also a global perspective on different cultures and methods of working with patients – he explains.

– Knowing that studying abroad could be an essential part of my medical studies, I was very excited about the possibility of participating in the Santander-Yale International Summer Experience Program.

Applying for the Santander scholarship, I was convinced that studying at Yale with the world’s best professors, students and the latest medical equipment and technologies would undoubtedly enrich the knowledge I gained at the Medical University of Gdańsk.

Santander Universidades is one of the key social initiatives of the Santander Group which has been carrying out projects supporting higher education for over 20 years. In Poland, the program was initiated in 2011 and consociates 57 academic centres throughout the country.

The main idea behind Santander Universidades is to support young people around the world and provide them with an environment that will allow them to develop their knowledge, skills and professional qualifications even more effectively than before. Therefore, we are more than happy that our program will allow the Polish students to study abroad and meet interesting people from around the world – says Wojciech Leśniewski, the director of Santander Universidades in Poland.

This year’s edition of the program received a great deal of interest, receiving multiple international applications. The Polish candidates stood out and presented themselves at a really high level. In the end 11 people received scholarships under programs such as:

  • Santander-Yale International Experience Summer Program
  • Georgetown Summer Workshop-Social Innovation and Financial Inclusion in the Digital Age
  • TrepCamp Entrepreneurial Simulator 2019 (Dolina Krzemowa, Nowy Jork, San Diego)
  • Santander W50: Preparing Our Women Board Members of Tomorrow na Uniwersytecie Kalifornijskim w Los Angeles (UCLA).
