The university puts great importance on the increase of the level of internationalization together with developing international cooperation. These efforts are considered as a significant success. The MUG cooperates with many international scientific centers under inter-university and intergovernmental agreements, partnership initiatives, thematic networks, membership in international organizations, exchange of students and academic teachers, joint publications and the organization of numerous conferences and scientific symposia all around the world.

The MUG participates in numerous programs within which students, young scientists and employees may travel abroad in order to complete a part of their studies, internship and give lectures, do a research or improve competences. Since 1998 the University has actively participated in the Erasmus Program. Each year the number of MUG students abroad increases. Nearly 60 partner universities from a various countries of the European Union and beyond are exchanging students and staff.

MUG is a founding member of the Baltic Sea Region University Network BSRUN coordinated by the University of Turku, Finland. With the appreciation to the importance of the regional dimension of European cooperation MUG also participates in the activities aimed at supporting initiatives for the development of technology transfer in medicine and biotechnology in the Baltic Sea area.

As a member of organizations and initiatives supporting the internationalization of universities such as EUPRIO, PRom, IROs Forum, Study in Poland, Study in Pomorskie, Ready, Study, GO! Poland, Immigrants and Immigrants Support Center. As part of the activities aimed at increasing the level of internationalization the University intensively cooperates with the National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA for grants, scholarships for students and scientists, the Foundation for the Development of the Education System FRSE, the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools KRASP, (in the field of Medicine including KRAUM), the Educational Foundation Perspektywy, the Office of the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, the City Hall of Gdańsk.

The internationalization and international cooperation are conducted by the University’s Department of Internationalization in the fields of:

  • coordination of cooperation with foreign countries for didactic purposes, including university exchange programs,
  • increasing the level of internationalization activities at the University,
  • support of the integration of foreign community of the University,
  • building and strengthening relationships with foreign graduates/alumni.
